Service Description

We drive to The Cradle of Human Kind/Maropeng for a 1 day Cradle of Human Kind tour of a journey back in time from the start of our universe, some 14-billion years ago. We visit the Tumulus building to browse the interactive displays, have lunch (own cost) at the Tumulus restaurant and then go to the Sterkfontein Caves to see where world-acclaimed fossils were discovered. The Sterkfontein Caves are owned by the University of the Witwatersrand, whose scientists have been responsible for the main excavations of the World Heritage Site. They are credited with many of the famous discoveries including the world famous “Mrs Ples” and “Little Foot”, an almost complete Australopithecus skeleton dating back more than 3-million years. The tours at the Sterkfontein Caves start above ground and then take visitors deep into the caves.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation at least 7 day(s) in advance of the scheduled departure, there is no cancellation fee. Cancellation between 3 and 6 day(s) in advance of the scheduled departure, there is a 50 percent cancellation fee. If you cancel within 2 day(s) of the scheduled departure, there is a 100 percent cancellation fee. You are strongly encouraged to obtain cancellation insurance. In some cases, TourSouthAfrica may cancel a tour due to weather or other circumstance. In the event that TourSouthAfrica cancels the tour, or does not deliver it as promised, You may choose between a rescheduling of the tour OR a 50% refund of all monies paid, or a credit towards an alternative tour. If you choose to accept a credit, the difference in the cost of the alternative tour will be refunded by TourSouthAfrica or paid by You, as applicable. TourSouthAfrica is not responsible for any incidental expenses you may have incurred in reliance on the tour booked on the Site, including, without limitation, expenses arising from the purchase of visas, vaccinations, non-refundable flights, or of any loss of enjoyment.
